If you are a resident of Hempstead or the surrounding area, are interested in improving the level of security that you have in your home, and are a hands on type of person, making your own home alarm may be an interesting a worthwhile project for you to tackle. You can put together a basic burglar alarm for your home mostly with things that you likely already have somewhere in your house. The following steps will guide you through the process of putting together a basic home alarm (if you are very savvy with these kinds of things, you may be able to elaborate as needed to make a more complex system).

1. The first thing that you will need to do is get a wooden board. It does not matter what type of wood the board is made out of, but it should measure about eight inches in width and about twelve inches in length.

2. The next thing that you will need to do is get a 1.5V battery. Then, using tape, attach this battery to the wooden board in the upper lefthand corner.

3. You will now need a 1.5 alarm or buzzing device. Attached to this device, you will find two electrical wires. You will need to remove the insulation from the ends of these wires. You should take off about 1 inch of insulation from each.

4. Next, use tape to attach the alarm or buzzing device to the wooden board next to the battery (in the right corner). The alarm or buzzing device and the battery need to be placed close enough so that one of the electrical wires can reach the battery. Tape the end of this wire to one end of the battery.

5. Take the electrical wire that is not connected to the battery and coil the part without insulation around a clothes pin.

6. You will now need another electrical wire that is about 12 inches long. Take this electrical wire and remove one inch of insulation from each end of it. Then, tape one of these ends to the end of the battery that is not already connected to the wire from the alarm or buzzing device.

7. Coil the free end of this wire around the free end of the clothes pin in a way so that the two wires that are wrapped around the clothes pin touch each other when the clothes pin is closed. This will complete the electrical circuit, triggering the alarm or buzzing device to sound.

This may be a simple device for you to put together, but remember that it may be just as simple for a burglar to take apart. Thus, if you really want to assure that you have an effective home alarm, it might be worth investing in a professional home security system.
