Cockroaches are the common pests which love to live in humid, warm and dark places. Outside your house they are useful as they help in degradation of organic waste. But when they are inside your house they are not safe as they can spread diseases or allergies.

How to get rid of Cockroaches?


Besides feeding on your food they can even damage your books and wallpaper. Moreover they can spread various disease carrying germs and allergens in your family. You need to follow certain steps to rid of cockroach families settled in your house and check their coming back.
  • The initial and most important step is to figure out cockroach infestation in your home.
  • Secondly you need to find out their entry and exit points in your house. It is seen that cockroaches mainly infest through drain or vents. So once you know their entry and exit points you can seal all the possible points.
  • Next step is to kill the cockroaches. For this purpose you can use an insecticide spray, sprinkle boric acid or use cockroach bait.
  • In case you want to use boric acid then to 2 parts of flour add 1 part of boric acid and 1 part of cocoa. This mixture is toxic for cockroaches. Dust this mixture in all your kitchen cabinets, under sink, corners, cracks, hollow spaces and around toilets. Remember this mixture is dangerous for kids.
  • For cockroach bait you can use water jars or trap with adhesives.
  • Other way to exterminate cockroaches is to take professional help.
  • The simplest way to get rid of cockroaches is to use soap and water solution. You can simply spray this solution on cockroaches, only 2-3 drops of this solution is highly effective in killing these nasty pests.

More Ways to Prevent Cockroach Presence:
  • Fix plumbing leaks and other moisture problems.
  • Take out of your home piles of boxes, newspapers, and other items where cockroaches may hide.
  • Seal any small space (1/8" wide) where cockroaches may live including: spaces where plumbing or electrical wiring goes through walls, and cracks or spaces in walls around outlets, baseboards, and window sills.
  • Remove or repair any loose wallpaper.
  • Vacuum cockroaches. Then remove the bag from the vacuum, place the bag into a plastic garbage bag and seal it, and throw the bag away immediately.
  • When you move, don't take cockroaches with you. Use only boxes that come from places with no cockroaches. Pack during the day. Don't leave packed boxes in your home overnight. Watch for cockroaches in your new home. If you discover any, use cockroach poison right away.

Here are a few varieties you can use once you have cleaned up and fixed your home. Caution: Read all label directions carefully before buying insecticides and again before you apply them. Always follow label directions completely.
  • Sprays. These cans are labeled "for ants and roaches," and "for indoor use." Spray the insecticide along baseboards, around appliances, under sinks, and any other cracks and tight spaces where you have seen cockroaches in your home. Do not spray where you prepare or store food, or where young children play, crawl, or sleep, because the spray can make people sick. Also do not spray on your dishes, pans, and utensils.
  • Bait stations, which come in ready-to-use containers.
  • Boric Acid, which you can buy in a dust form and sprinkle in places your family will not disturb, like areas behind and under stoves, refrigerators, and sinks.
