    • Toyota introduced its first pickup truck in 1964, called the Stout. The Stout was replaced in 1969 by the Hi-lux pickup. The Hi-lux name remained until 1976 when, just the name, was eliminated in the U.S. market, but remains in all other markets around the world. From 1976 through 1995 the Toyota truck was simply named, Toyota Pickup. In mid-1995 Toyota changed the name to the Tacoma, and the Tacoma remains as of 2010.

    Engines

    • The base engine in the 1995 Toyota Pickup is a 2.4-liter I-4. This engine produces 116 horsepower at 4,800 rpm and 140 ft-lb of torque at 2,800 rpm. The optional 3.0-liter V-6, available on DX and Xtracab models, produces 150 hp at 5,000 rpm and 185 ft-lb of torque at 3,750 rpm.

    Fuel

    • The 2.4-liter I-4 gets 18 to 22 miles per gallon in the city and 19 to 27 mpg on the highway, depending on options selected. The 3.0-liter gets 14 to 18 mpg in the city and 17 to 23 mpg on the highway, depending on the options selected. There are three optional fuel tanks: 13.7 gallon, 17.2 gallons and 19.3 gallons.

    Exterior

    • The regular cab pickups are 174.6 inches long with a 103-inch wheelbase, while the Xtracabs are 193.1 inches long with a 121.9-inch wheelbase. All of the 1995 Toyota Pickups are 66.5 inches in length. The height varies greatly on these trucks in the varying trim lines. The regular cab two-wheel drives are the shortest at 60.8 inches, the Xtracab two-wheel drives are 61 inches tall, the regular cab four-wheel drives are 67.1 inches tall and the tallest, at 67.3 inches, are the Xtracab four-wheel drives. The curb weight, empty weight, is lowest at 2,690 lb in the regular cab two-wheel drive models and the highest is 3,880 lb in the SR5 Xtracab V-6, with an automatic transmission.

    Interior

    • The 1995 Toyota Pickup has 38.3 inches of front headroom, 34.7 inches of rear headroom, 41.5 inches of front legroom, 53.9 to 55.4 inches of front shoulder room, 55.7 inches of rear shoulder room, 54.1 to 54.5 inches of front hip room and 53.2 to 52.4 inches of rear hip room. They can seat two to five passengers depending on options selected.

    Hauling

    • In 1995 the Toyota Pickup has a maximum towing capacity of 3,500 lb, regardless of packages selected. The payload, total weight the chassis can carry, ranges from a minimum of 1,480 lb, in the SR5 Xtracab V-6, to a maximum of 2,055 lb, in the DX four-wheel drive model.
