College Success Tips - Four Common Time Management Pitfalls in College

103 13
Succeeding in college is very dependent on a number of factors.
Time management is one of the most critical.
There are four pitfalls of time management.
1.
Becoming intoxicated with freedom
.
Many college students are very inexperienced with planning time.
If they've depended on high school teachers to structure their study and parents to wake them up in the mornings, they are woefully unprepared for taking on the responsibility that goes with freedom, especially if they are living away from home for the first time.
2.
Underestimating the time it takes to complete college-level work
.
Occasionally one of my college professors would cancel a class so we could work on a major paper.
When the due date was weeks away, most of my classmates procrastinated and used this time to socialize instead, thinking they had plenty time to work on their papers later.
3.
Believing they have to be in the mood before they can study.
Delaying the start of a task until you are in the mood is a favorite among many students.
What wise students discover is that when they get started on a task well ahead of the deadline, their mood brightens and self-esteem is increased.
4.
Relying too much on modern technology.
Some students depend on computers, printers and other technology to pull them through at the last minute.
If you've ever seen a procrastinator kick and scream at a copy machine or printer that's moving slower than they wish, you know what I mean.
I find that the day I've waited until the hour before a meeting to run copies is the day the copier is down for repairs.
Now that you know about them, avoid these pitfalls to ensure your college success.
