Halloween candies can range from normal candy bars to specialty candies designed to look like dismembered body parts or creepy worms and spiders. While you're sure to find a wide assortment of Halloween treats in most stores during the holiday season, you don't have to limit yourself to items off the shelf. Instead of searching for the perfect spooky treat, make your own candy gifts at home to hand out to family and friends.

    Jack-o-Lantern Marshmallow Pops

    • Make homemade Jack-o-lantern pops out of marshmallows, candy coating and lollipop sticks. First, push a green gumdrop onto a lollipop stick to create the green stem of your Jack-o-lantern. The lollipop stick needs to go all the way through the gumdrop with approximately 1 inch of stick exposed below the gumdrop. Push a marshmallow onto the stick underneath the gumdrop to form the basic shape of your pumpkin. Purchase orange meltable candy wafers at craft stores or the cake decorating aisle of many big box stores to coat your marshmallows and make them look like Jack-o-lanterns. Melt these candies according to the package directions and dip the marshmallow into the orange candy to coat it. Place your pumpkin marshmallow pops on wax paper to cool and dry. Once the candy is hard, add a scary Jack-o-lantern face with piped chocolate candy or draw the face on with food-safe markers. Package your marshmallow pops in small cellophane bags to keep them fresh until you're ready to eat them or give them as gifts.

    Eyeball Truffles

    • White chocolate truffles quickly become spooky eyeballs with the addition of a few candies or icing. The Wilton website features a recipe for white chocolate truffles that contain chopped dried cherries, which give your finished eyeball truffles a bloodshot appearance. Press a colored ring-shaped candy onto the truffle and push a chocolate chip or small round candy into the center of the ring-shaped candy to add an iris and pupil to your eyeball truffles. Package the eyeballs in cellophane bags or place them in a candy box for a gruesome surprise when the recipient opens it.

    Candy Apples

    • Coat fresh apples with melted caramel, chocolate or candy coating to create candied apples for Halloween. The Hershey's website recommends dipping the bottom of each apple into melted chocolate chips and then drizzling melted peanut butter chips over the top of the apple to create chocolate- and peanut butter-dipped apples. Piercing the top of the apple with a craft stick prior to dipping makes the process easier and enables you to hold the apple easily while eating it. In addition to a candy coating, you can roll your freshly dipped candy apples in Halloween-themed sprinkles, candies, chopped nuts or colored sugar to add even more flavor and decoration.
