Pressure wash advice and why you should use a paving sealer too

Cleaning your patio or driveway is usually done with a pressure washer. These machines disperse a high powered jet of water. They are available at all home improvement stores. The cheaper versions are not very powerful and are more use for cleaning vehicles. More expensive machines are best, these can be hired for a day from your local hire shop. Alternatively you can just hire a local paving cleaning company to do the work for you.

Pressure washing concrete surfaces is a time consuming task. It is easy to leave lines, or make a mess of the area. It should also be noted that regular pressure washing on concrete surfaces will wear the surface away. This can give a rougher surface that actually ends up attracting dirt much quicker.

Once your surface looks clean it is best to add a sealant. Paving sealers come in various styles. Some will have a glossy look but most people will go for the matte finish. If unsure test a little on the corner of your patio or driveway. Sealants are applied with a standard sweeping brush. Ensure that equal amounts are applied and brush it on in a circular motion. This will make sure that all cracks and ridges get covered in the sealer. The benefit of treating the surface this way is that it will be protected from the elements and will stay cleaner for longer.

Applying a sealant after pressure washing your paving will keep it protected and reduce the need for frequent washing. All styles of drive and patio surface are suitable for this treatment except asphalt and gravel.
