    • 1). Lay four strips of 2-by-2 wood out in a square and bind the corners together with twine, duct tape, or staples. Make sure your square lays level and flat on the ground.

    • 2). Attach one end of a flexible wood strip to a corner of the square and secure it with twine. Bend it into an arc and attach the other end with twine to the opposite corner of the square. Do the same with the second piece of flexible wood, creating a dome over top of your square.

    • 3). Secure the top of the dome with twine or duct tape where the two strips of flexible wood meet. Check again to make sure your trap sits squarely on the ground, otherwise the animal you trap will wiggle out the bottom.

    • 4). Stretch the window screen over the dome and secure it to the base with staples. Trim any uneven edges. You may have to overlap the screen in places to make a tight fit, but you don't want any animals escaping.

    • 5). Attach your bait to one fork of your forked stick. Press it onto the stick firmly so the animal has to move the stick to get the food. The type of bait you use depends upon what you are trying to catch. Chipmunks are drawn to peanut butter or popcorn. Rabbits prefer fresh lettuce leaves, carrots, or cabbage.

    • 6). Prop one end of your dome trap open by resting the edge on the empty fork of your forked stick. When the animal reaches for the bait inside, it will dislodge the prop, trapping it.

    • 7). Remove the animal from your trap carefully, wearing heavyweight gloves. Slide a flat piece of tin or plastic under the trap and lift the whole thing together. Slide the animal out into a five gallon bucket for relocation.
