"Soren, a young barn owl, is kidnapped by owls of St. Aggie's, ostensibly an orphanage, where owlets are brainwashed into becoming soldiers. He and his new friends escape to the island of Ga'Hoole, to assist its noble, wise owls who fight the army being created by the wicked rulers of St. Aggie's."

The film is actually the adaptation of he first three installments of the book series: The Capture, The Journey, and The Rescue. Guardians of Ga'Hoole is a young adult epic fantasy book series written by Kathryn Lasky and published by Scholastic. The series which ended in 2008 with the publication of The War of the Ember has a total of fifteen books. Apart from the main series there are a few more books and spin offs set in the same universe.

Some Characters

• Soren: A barn owl, Soren is the main protagonist of the series. He has two siblings: Kludd and Eglantine. His mate is Pellimore; they have three young chicks: Blythe, Bash and Bell.
• Kludd (Metal Beak): Kludd is Soren's older brother. He is a large, brutal Barn owl and, for a time, is the leader of the Pure Ones. He is later killed by Twilight.
• Eglantine: Soren's younger sister, she has been captured by Kludd after her parents death and has been "shattered" once by the Pure Ones
• Gylfie: Soren's best friend, she met him in St.Aegolius canyons. She is an Elf Owl.
• Twilight: An orphaned Great Grey owl, he has lived his entire life with no family. He was raised by various creatures, including foxes.
• Digger: A Burrowing owl, his family has been killed and eaten by Jutt and Jatt (agents of St. Aegolius).
