What are Solar Cells and Solar Panels - How It Works?
Solar panels are made from photovoltaic cells or PV. Simply broken down, photo means light and voltaic relates to the production of electricity. Photovoltaic technology enables the creation of electricity using light. PV cells have at least two layers of semiconductors, one that is positively charged and one that is negatively charged. When the light shines on the semiconductor, the electric field between the junctions of these two layers causes electricity to flow. The electrons moved towards the bottom of the cell and exit through the connecting wire. The greater the intensity of light, the greater the flow of electricity.
By combining solar cells and photovoltaic panels, we can produce just the right amount of electricity to
perform a specific job. No matter how large or small.
There many sorts of PV panels including PV tiles, these tiles are simple to install. They can be install on to roof of a domestic house very easily and work very simply. The lights that hit the panels is converted into clean electricity, there are no moving parts, so this is a silent operation.
The electricity generated by the panels is Direct Current (DC), by installing an inverter it is converted to Alternating Current (AC) so it is in sync with the mains electricity and can be used normally.
The clean electricity is then fed to the mains though the fuse boards. Using meters, the amount of electricity made and used can be recorded and any spare electricity is sold back to the electricity supplier.
The amount of energy available from the sun differs, depending on your location. Even during cloudy time in the UK, for example, it can still produce an 800KW hour per square meter is being produced. Enough to power an entire energy efficient home. Approximately ten square meters of PV to power such a home entirely from solar energy.
Solar photovoltaic are simple and practical way of powering buildings with clean energy. Sustainable energy is within our reach for this generation.
Let's start our green movement journey today and start ripping the benefits of clean energy into the future. Benefits of not only saving money but helping the environment as well in restoring to its natural condition.
