    Paper and Magazines

    • Teachers can give the kindergartners simple book-making for a one-day project by giving students paper, magazines, glue and scissors. The students fold the paper to make book pages and then cut out the pictures they like from a magazine and glue it to the page. Allow children as much creativity as preferred. Teachers can then ask about the story of the book and help children write the basic story. Teachers should always supervise while children use scissors.

    Big Art Book

    • A big art book project is a gradual project where students draw images for their book, including the cover, and the pieces are gradually made into a single book. The students' names are written clearly on the front cover. Children can use crayons, markers or paints.

    Poem or Rhyme Books

    • Books are about both art and writing, and one method of teaching children about books is making a poem or rhyme book. This book includes both the drawings of children and a rhyme. The key is having the children draw pictures based on the rhyme or poem on the page. Kindergarten book rhymes should be short, simple and easy to understand for children just learning to read. The books might include poems or rhymes made up by the kindergarten class or classic poems and rhymes.

    Class Books

    • Class books are fun options for the whole class rather than individual students. Books can range from students working on a story together to putting together a book of baby pictures and current pictures as a guessing book of which baby goes with which student. Use short rhymes, questions or fun phrases to keep the class interested. You can use a variety of image ideas, such as Halloween costumes, winter holidays, people or areas of interest to the children.
