    Soft Reset

    • Use a soft reset first and see if it resolves the freeze. Just remove the battery from the Palm Treo and put it back in again. The device will start up again and go through its processes. When it gets to the Date and Time preferences screen, the reset is complete and usually the device will work just fine.

    About a Hard Reset

    • This is sometimes called a system reset. It will erase all the data and third-party software on the Treo. For obvious reasons, try a soft reset first. You can troubleshoot issues when you do a hard reset because all the third-party applications will be gone. So, if the device works normally after the hard reset, you can make the assumption that the problem was related to a third-party software.

    Performing a Hard Reset

    • Remove the battery. Press and hold the Power/End button, (which is the button with the red stripe marking on it) while putting the battery back in. It's a two handed job. When the "Access Powered' logo appears on the screen, let go of the Power/End button. A prompt will appear on the screen asking if you'd like to erase all data. Press the "Up" key to confirm. The device will reformat and restart.

    After a Hard Reset

    • Follow the instructions to set the time and date and realign the touch screen. At this point, you can reload any data from previous synchronizations, called Hotsyncs. Your device should now be functioning normally. You can reload third-party software one at a time to see which one, if any, caused the freeze.
