Stay Doggy! Dog Training
Training a dog to stay can be very difficult for dog owners.
The idea to get a dog to stay just really confuses people on how to train it.
That's why it is a good idea to relate to a good source such as this one.
A dog should be taught to stay for so many reasons other than the one of just, "Sit Sammy! Ok, here is a treat.
" Ever gone through a door or hallway carrying things and the dog just gets in your way and drives you absolutely crazy? Most likely your answer is yes, and this is another huge reason why your dog should be taught to stay when ever commanded.
With the ability to just tell the dog to stay where he is, it can really organize a lot of moving around the house at times as well.
Let's jump into this training and make it as simple as it possibly can be explained.
Your going to need a leash and tie your dog up with it.
Preferably a leash around four feet of length.
Tie the dog up and with the leash and be ready to hold on to him.
Take a treat that is not too appealing to the dog and set it in the middle of a room.
This treat should be one that the dog wants to eat.
Do not start with a treat that any dog would die over such as a cooked steak or greasy hamburger.
The idea here is to get the dog to really want that treat but not be able to reach it because of the leash which you are holding onto to.
Count to 4 and then say, "Stay and the dog name.
" The dog will give up eventually and then say the word stay again so that it really registers in his brain.
After you do not need the leash any more to have him stay on his own, then give the dog the treat.
This is very easy and basic.
With repetition, this can really do justice on training a dog to stay while doing anything.
I would suggest giving the dog a treat every time he does the trick correct though or the dog will slowly stop listening.
