In late 2010, the United States Congress passed a new law, the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act of 2010. Popularly known as the Zadroga law, the act received Presidential Assent on January 2, 2011. The US Congress determined this as a health bill. Zaadroga law is a special legislation to provide compensation to people who have developed problems related to respiratory system or any other ailment which might cause serious or even fatal conditions due to exposure to dust or toxins released after the collapse of the towers.
A number of search and rescue workers, volunteers as well as people who were involved in the cleanup acts have contracted problems due to exposure to toxic substances like asbestos, lead or mercury. These people are now undergoing prohibitively expensive medical treatment. Not all these people are able to afford the expensive treatment and Uncle Sam needs to step in and help the people who helped this country in what was perhaps the darkest of its hours.
Zadroga law is homage to the New York Police Department officer James Zadroga. James was one of the first responders of the 9/11 tragedy and was involved in considerable volume of the search and rescue effort at the site of attacks and collapse. Due to hi stretched presence at the site, James was exposed to toxic material for prolonged periods of time. He contracted respiratory problems and despite getting the best treatment, he succumbed to the disease. James' wife had also died in 2003 and this left his daughter alone.
Zadroga law is a special attempt by US government to ensure that no such preventable loss of life ever occurs again and the heroes of United States are given every possible support that they deserve as they worked very hard and put their duty before self to make sure that people were safe from the savage terrorist attacks that hit this country on the fateful day. Now that ground zero has been cleared and a memorial is in the works, a number of cases have also come forward where people need the assistance that this country can easily afford.
Zadroga law has made provision for claim which can be filed to a Special Master with support from a Zadroga attorney. Once the claim is filed, the person laying the claim would have to prove that he/she has contracted medical problems due to exposure to toxic substances and that they were present at the demarcated are on the given days. Mostly, proving this will require gathering and presenting documentary evidence which you can easily gather with the assistance of a Zadroga attorney.
Note that you will have to be very careful in selecting your Zadroga law attorney as the good attorney will ensure smooth sailing of your claim. A number of attorneys are also offering compensation or no fee scenario to help the victims even though they can not take more than 10% of the compensation amount as the fees.
