Hoe Plow Tool

• The ancient stone hoe consisted of a large triangular stone piece with an open handle at the top middle of the stone. The hoe was relatively twice the size of the drill and was one of the oldest and basic stone tool plowing instruments in recorded history. The hoe's shape was made employing the same technique used when building other stone tools, such as the axe and drill. Ancient farmers would hit the stones with other harder stones, causing pieces, chunks and flakes to fall off. They would maneuver their striking to create the triangular shape of the hoe, which was used before the drill but after the axe, to plow crop fields and prepare the soil for planting seeds.
  
  

Drill Plow Tool

• The drill was another type of ancient stone farming plow used by ancient farmers to prepare the soil. The drill was made up of smooth stone, usually limestone, and its main purpose had to do with planting the seeds in prepared soil. The drill was not used for initial soil preparation, but rather afterward, when the soil was prepared for seed planting. Drills in ancient societies consisted of stone handles and a stone cap-like feature at the top. The whole drill was carved in one piece so other materials were not needed to hold the stone cap in place.
  
  

Axe Plow Tool

• When ancient farmers first looked to farm on a piece of land, they would first use the axe. The axe was the first stone tool used to work and plow fields. Axes would be used to cut down trees and grasses. They consisted of a small teardrop piece of stone with extremely sharp edges. Farmers would make an axe using the same method employed to create a hoe. A soft piece of food would be shaped by hitting it with a harder piece of wood. The edges of the stone would then be hit in such a way as to create sharp edges.
  
  

Stone Shovel Plow Tool

• The stone shovel was a flat piece of polished stone used to shovel out sediments and soils to prepare fields for crops. The stone shovel was created using the same technique used to create the hoe. Ancient farmers would also use the stone shovel as a second hoe when they required it.
