    • 1). Run cool water into a water dish. Open one container of nail polish, and allow one drop of the polish to fall from its nail brush into the water. Add one drop from a different color of nail polish to the water and then one drop from a third color of nail polish. Move one toothpick in all directions in the dish containing water and three drops of nail polish, cutting through the polish colors and combining them to form a marbled pattern.

    • 2). Apply a generous amount of rubbing alcohol to a cotton ball, and wipe each nail with the cotton to remove all dirt and oil from nails. Use additional cotton balls if necessary. Dry each nail.

Apply a thin layer of petroleum jelly to skin surrounding each nail using a cotton swab. Avoid touching the nails with the cotton swab because the petroleum jelly may prevent the marbled polish from adhering to the nails.

    • 4). Dip one nail into the water dish containing the marbled polish. Rest the fingertip just under the layer of polish that is on the water's surface.

    • 5). Remove excess polish that floats on the water's surface with a cotton swab. Use several cotton swabs if necessary to clear the dish of the polish except for what is on the nail. Get as close to the nail as possible with the swab without touching the nail. Lift the fingertip slowly out of the water. Marbled paint should be on the nail.

    • 6). Dip a cotton swab into nail polish remover if marbled polish is on the petroleum jelly or skin around the nail. Remove the marbled polish from the petroleum jelly or skin using the cotton swab. Use several polish remover-covered swabs if necessary.

Repeat the procedure to apply marbled polish to each nail.
