How to Remove Studs From a JET Lathe
- 1). Shut down the lathe. Switch the power off and disconnect its power source. You never want a lathe to be on, or accidentally come on, while you work on it.
- 2). Clean off the bed and any areas around the tailstock. Use a rag wet with metal cleaner or glass cleaner to clean off any shards or shavings that may get in the way.
- 3). Use a locking or adjustable wrench to tighten around the stud you want to remove. Move the wrench and the stud counter-clockwise once you tightened them.
- 4). Continue twisting the stud until it begins to come loose. Set the wrench aside once the stud is noticeably loose.
- 5). Grab the head of the stud with a pair of needle-nose pliers. Pull the stud directly out, if it budges. Otherwise, twist it a couple times counter-clockwise again using the pliers and pull out once its loose enough.
- 6). Place the stud on a paper towel. Clean and grease the stud with WD-40 or a similar product. Check the threads for any stripping before placing back in the lathe.
