How to Remove Caulking From a Bathroom Shower
- 1). Wet the old caulk slightly with water. You want to make sure the caulk is moist, but not soaking wet. This will provide lubrication for the caulk removal tool to work.
- 2). Scrape off the old caulk with a razor blade. Make sure to wear leather gloves to keep from getting cut. Use slight sideways motions and keep as much control of the blade as you can.
- 3). Wipe down the remaining caulk with a wet cloth. This might remove some of the caulk that is left. If all of the caulk gets removed by this, you are ready to re-caulk.
- 4). Place some rubbing alcohol on a rag and clean the rest of the caulk which may be left in the shower. The rubbing alcohol helps to break down the caulk and should make it easier to remove.
- 5). If there is any caulk still left after cleaning the area, spray it with a caulk removal solvent. This can be purchased at most home improvement stores. Let the solvent sit for a few minutes and then clean with a cloth.
