How to Increase the RPMs on a Craftman Lawnmower

    • 1). Remove the flywheel cover from the engine on your Craftsman lawn mower. There will be six to 10 bolts around the perimeter of the flywheel cover depending on the size and horsepower of the engine. Use properly sized wrenches and sockets to remove the cover.

    • 2). Locate the small rectangular governor flap bolted next to the flywheel. The governor is usually bolted into the engine block near the front of the engine, beside the flywheel.

    • 3). Unscrew the governor bolt with the properly sized wrench.

    • 4). Unhook the linkage and spring that may be attached from the center of the governor to the eyelets on top of the carburetor.

    • 5). Set the governor in a safe place for possible future re-installation.

    • 6). Replace the flywheel cover and bolt it back on.
