    • 1). Choose a location for your rock wall on a vacant wall in your basement, garage or outside the home if desired. Remove items adorning the wall if need be. If your wall will be freestanding (such as playground type walls), choose a location in your yard.

    • 2). Use a stud finder to locate the studs in the wall, the weight bearing points where you want to place your "rocks." For freestanding walls, mark the point where you'll dig the support beams on the ground and dig deep enough (at least 2 feet down) to accommodate the beams. Measure and mark the distance between the first beam and second that matches the length of the plywood pieces.

    • 3). Mark the locations of the rocks on the wall, keeping in mind you'll need to place the rocks closer or further apart to match the size and strength level of the kids that will be climbing. If needed, place each rock on its location and trace the outline onto the wall so you'll know where each rock will be placed.

    • 4). Insert the posts into the ground and fill the remaining space with concrete to keep the wall from shifting if building a freestanding wall. Allow enough time to dry according to the manufacturer's recommended time. Screw the sheets of plywood to the posts, one on each side of the posts to create the wall, then follow the above step.

    • 5). Screw each rock into wall using the appropriate screws using two to three screws per rock to secure it to the wall. For indoor walls, place padded safety mats on the floor underneath the wall to absorb any falls; for freestanding walls, use wood shavings.
