How to Make a Pizza Stone
- 1). Visit your local hardware or home improvement store and review their unglazed ceramic tiles. These come in a variety of sizes and sell for a few dollars.
- 2). Select the appropriate size to meet your needs. Keep in mind you can always use two or more tiles together to create a larger tile.
- 3). Place the unglazed tile on the wire rack in your oven. Check that the rack is positioned in the center of the oven for best heat circulation.
- 4). Preheat the oven to the desired temperature. Allow a few extra minutes of preheating to assure the tile is hot before cooking.
- 5). Place the pizza directly on the tile for baking. Monitor baking time carefully, as using a pizza stone alters the cooking time. Check the pizza by lifting a corner of the crust to check that it is brown.
- 6). Remove pizza with large spatulas or a pizza peel. Allow the tile to cool in the oven. Wash with water and dry with a soft towel.
