Is Reincarnation a Myth or a Fact?
Is reincarnation a possible reality? Have we lived before on planet earth in a different family and a different country? Why are some children born with unparalleled talents while others are born with genetic disorders? Is God playing with dice distributing talents and outstanding abilities to some children and misery and diseases to others? We all have thought similar questions at one time or another in our lives.
There's no doubt that Divine Justice is sacred and fair, disregarding of one's religion.
Initially, the word religion comes from the Latin word "religare" which means to re-link and connect, in other words, to connect human being to God.
And the essence of all religions is love, compassion and good deeds.
Moreover, some religions, such as Hinduism and Buddhism, openly mention reincarnation, while others don't mention it plainly, yet insinuate to it in a way or another.
On the other hand, a lot of great philosophers made of reincarnation an integral part of their teaching such as Socrates, Pythagoras and Plato.
From the scientific perspective, Dr.
Ian Stevenson, Professor of Psychiatry and Director of the Division of Personality Studies at the University of Virginia collected since the late sixties around 3000 cases of young children aged from 3 to 5 and from different parts of the world, namely The United States, Britain, India, Africa and the Near and Far East who remembered their previous life providing outstanding details about their former homes and neighborhoods as well as still-living former family members and acquaintances.
Dr.
Stevenson's research is highly respected in the scientific community as they are examined from a strictly rational perspective, with relevant evidence that prove the children's claims.
Moreover, Dr.
Stevenson declared his intentions to restrict his research on children as it is unlikely that children could be manipulated to memorize such events with unparalleled accuracy.
On the other hand, Edgar Cayce, a renowned American psychic and medium was capable of diagnosing while in a trance state sick persons' diseases by evaluating the root causes back in their previous lives.
He could get back in time up to lost civilizations eras such as Atlantis.
His perspective from reincarnation is that it should not be dwelled upon to find which famous persons we were, but rather to understand the consequences of previous actions that we might be reaping the result in our current life.
Whether reincarnation is a myth or a fact depends upon each individual.
Some people who remember previous life due to meditation consider it an undeniable fact while for others reincarnation remains a myth or an illusion.
Yet, had it been a myth, it is likely that it would have been waned long time ago and not been a subject of interest to theosophists, scientists and philosophers throughout history.
