How to Treat Cracked and Callused Hands
- 1). Use mild soap when you wash your hands. Many manufacturers make soaps specifically for sensitive skin.
- 2). Pat your hands on a towel after washing them; if you can, keep them slightly moist.
- 3). Apply a moisturizer to your hands while they are still damp. The moisturizer helps lock and adds extra moisture to the skin.
- 4). Put on gloves after applying moisturizer, and wear them as long as you can. This adds another barrier to keep moisture in and also protects the hands from conditions that may cause the skin to dry out. Wear gloves thin enough that they do not limit your hand movement.
- 1). Pour one cup of cider vinegar and 4 cups of water into a small plastic tub large enough that it can fit your hands along with the liquid.
- 2). Soak your hands in the liquid for 15 minutes.
- 3). Rub the calluses with a pumice stone. Remove only the outer portion of the calluses. Scraping off the entire callus puts your hand at risk for infection.
- 4). Soak and scrub your hands once per week until the calluses do not come back.
- 5). Wear gloves when handling heavy or rough objects to prevent future calluses from forming.
