In heart failure, the heart becomes weak and unable to pump blood as well as it should. It is a condition that can cause kidney problems, edema, and heart congestion. In late-stage heart failure, advanced symptoms persist despite treatment. Treatments will include medications, dietary changes, and sometimes surgery. Heart transplants or LVADs may be considered.
