Some people keep collecting items because they think they may need it someday.
Although I used to collect various items for some extent, I stopped because I couldn't justify to myself why should I bring yet another item to my home, when I already have an item of same kind available.
Before bringing anything new to my home, I tend to think a little bit ahead of what might be the future of that item.
Although sometimes it's OK to have a backup item available, I make the decision on item basis.
These are the reasons that I may think whenever I'm bringing something new to my home.
I rarely use that anyway When bringing something new into my home, I always think if I'm ever going to use it.
Most of the time I realize that this is just a space waster in my closet or in another storage space.
However, if I accept it, I try to give it away or even donate it.
One example of this would be drinking bottles.
I'm a runner and in many contest they hand you the bag with full of stuff related to the race.
One of the most common items you receive is a drinking bottle.
Since I already have a bottle I use, I find it useless to have many bottles in my kitchen cabinet to fill available space.
I might have a one extra for backup purposes, but having like five or six different ones is just useless since I don't use them all.
They create unnecessary clutter I hate clutter, so collecting for just the sake of it is useless for me.
It generates clutter and my home is more difficult to organize and keep clean.
It's more difficult to find the things you need More things you have in your closets or other places, more time you may need to find your useful items.
That's why I think that the less you have items like this easier it is to find your essential stuff.
Cleaning is more difficult More clutter you have, the more difficult it is to clean your home.
Especially if the collected items are stored on tables or other places, they need to be cleared fist, before you can start cleaning.
This is yet another reason why I want to keep the same kind of items in bare minimum and have just the one I keep using.
Sometimes I might have a backup of that item, but those occasions are very rare.
