Fill the bathtub with water before applying caulk. The tub sinks with every 8 pounds of pressure added. Allowing the tub to sink before you apply will give you a true reading of the measurement of the gap. - 4). Cut the cartridge or tube at a 45-degree angle. The measurements are written on the end of the nozzle to help you decide where to cut. If you have a 1/2-inch seam, cut the tube or cartridge at the 1/2-inch mark.
- 5). Apply caulk by holding the tube or caulk gun at a 45-degree angle, using even pressure. Move the caulk slowly along the surface at an even pace. If caulk is not filling the empty space, you may need to cut a larger opening. Do not use too much. You can add more if needed.
- 6). Use a caulk smoother, very small spatula or Popsicle stick to smooth the edges of the caulk. Using the time noted on the caulk tube, allow the caulk to set or dry. Do not use your bathtub for the next 24 to 36 hours.
