How to Keep Glasses From Fogging Up in Winter

    Home Remedy: Shaving Cream

    • 1). Run your glasses under warm water, focusing on the lenses.

    • 2). Lather up a quarter-sized amount of shaving cream. It is better to use the foaming kind rather than gel.

    • 3). Use your fingers to gently rub the shaving cream onto both sides of each eyeglass lens.

    • 4). Rinse the excess shaving cream off using warm water.

    • 5). Use a cleaning cloth to remove excess moisture from the lenses, but do not dry them completely. Instead, let your glasses air-dry for a few minutes.

    • 6). Gently rub the lenses with a cleaning cloth once they have completely dried. The shaving cream will leave behind a fine layer of soap scum that will prevent fogging without reducing your ability to see through the lenses.

    • 7). Repeat steps one through six daily.

    Commerical Remedy: Anti-Fog Solution

    • 1). Purchase an anti-fog solution of your choosing. Many optical stores sell this at a reasonable price. You may also want to look online. Not all anti-fog solutions are created equal, and it may take a little experimentation to find the one that works best for you.

    • 2). Follow the directions provided by the manufacturer. You will probably either spritz or squirt some of the solution onto each lens and use a cleaning cloth to rub it in and remove the excess.

    • 3). Reapply the spray as necessary.

    Quick Solution: Scarf

    • 1). Decide whether or not you are willing to wear a scarf. If you live in a warm climate or dislike scarves, this solution is not for you.

    • 2). Place the scarf around your neck so that both ends hang down your chest and are equally long.

    • 3). Bring one end of the scarf up and over your shoulder. Fluff it up around your neck so that it covers as much skin as possible. Then, gently tug it so that it hangs slightly away from your neck.

    • 4). Bring the other end of the scarf up and over the other shoulder. Fluff it up so that covers your upper neck and mouth. Gently pull the bottom of the scarf away from your face, while leaving the upper edge tucked tightly against the area directly above your mouth.

    • 5). Enjoy a fog free day. The scarf will vent your breath away from your glasses, preventing them from fogging while you are outside.
