How to Treat Bleached Damaged Hair at Home

    • 1). Cut down on the number of times you shampoo your hair each week. Shampooing strips your hair of natural oils, and these oils help protect and soften the strands. When you do shampoo your hair, use a mixture of one part moisturizing shampoo and three parts water. This will give you the cleansing benefits of the shampoo without stripping your hair of too much oil.

    • 2). Use a deep conditioner a minimum of once a week. Leave it in for at least 30 minutes, before rinsing it out. Deep conditioners go farther into your hair shaft than standard conditioners, so they're better suited for bleach damaged hair.

    • 3). Rinse shampoo and conditioner from your hair with warm, not hot, water. Hot water dries out your hair, damaging the cuticle. This can cause bleach damaged hair further damage and even breakage. Before you step out of the shower, give your tresses one blast with cold water. This seals up the cuticle and locks the moisture from your conditioner in.

    • 4). Make your own hair mask using one avocado, two tablespoons of olive oil, an egg and a banana. Mash this up and put it in your hair for 10 minutes. All of these ingredients are highly moisturizing and will help repair bleach damaged hair.

    • 5). Don't use hot styling tools, such as curlers, flat irons or blow dryers. The heat from these products can cause more damage and breakage. Air drying is much more gentle than blow drying, even if it takes longer. Rather than using a curling iron on your hair, try using rollers overnight.
