Herb Gardens For Beginners - Which Herb Garden Kit is Right For Me?

If you're just beginning as a gardener, an herb garden kit is a great way to learn about growing herbs from the ground (or counter) up.
Kits come in all shapes and sizes, and range in price from under ten dollars to several hundred.
They come with all kinds of different herbs and most contain everything you need to get started except the sunshine and water.
If you know nothing about herbs, look in your recipes and choose some you use often.
Find a kit that contains these herbs and you are ready to go.
The most basic herb kits usually contain about three of the most common herbs.
Going from there you will find kits based on category -- such as culinary herbs or medicinal herbs, kits by country -- such as Mexican or Italian herbs, and almost infinitely on from there.
Small, inexpensive kits usually contain seeds, containers and soil or a fibrous tablet that expands into soil when you add water.
Some of the most expensive kits come with extensive lighting systems and would look at home in the most elegant museum.
One good feature included in many kits is a dome or other cover that helps keep water from escaping.
To start out, I would recommend one of the less expensive kits with three to five herbs.
Choose herbs that you are likely to use and maybe one or two that are new to you.
Follow the instructions closely, and take the trouble to get some additional information from the internet or a book on growing herbs.
Don't be alarmed if you find some conflicting information, there are as many opinions as there are gardeners, however most agree on the basics.
Kits are great because they can be started any time of year and can be grown even in a small apartment or studio.
Most of them come with everything you need and pretty good instructions.
It's fun and easy and not a big commitment.
Usually the biggest problem is being patient and not getting carried away! The one thing I would add, is if the kit does not contain some small pebbles you can add them to the bottom of the pot to enhance drainage.
That and good luck is all that you will need to add to the kit.
Just don't forget to water when the top half inch of soil becomes dry.
Oh, and plants love to be spritzed with water to keep them fresh.
I know, that's three things, but I'm much better at gardening than I am at math.
Good luck!
