How to Care for a Sago Plant
- 1). Plant your sago palm in a place with good drainage. Water whenever its soil dries out. Although sago palms are drought resistant, they need moisture for good growth. Do not water too much or you will risk root rot.
- 2). It's best to plant your sago palm in a place where it will receive full sunlight, though it can also grow well in shade.
- 3). Put 2 inches of light mulch (bark or leaf mold) around the plant to stop weeds from growing and to retain moisture. Do not put the mulch directly on the base of the tree.
- 4). Use a 24-7-8 fertilizer on your sago palm three times each year. Avoid strong fertilizers like manure, as they can damage your sago's roots.
