Garden Plant Known as a Dusty Miller
- Hardy to U.S. Department of Agriculture zones 8 to 10, dusty miller grows as an annual in colder regions. The plant grows best in full sun and well-drained soil. Wet soil will lead to stem and root rot caused by soil pathogens. Dusty miller is a drought-resistant plant and does not need frequent watering.
- Dusty miller grows well in containers and hanging baskets. As a bedding plant, its height makes it useful for bordering the front of gardens. Fresh cut foliage is used as an element in flower arrangements.
- The types of dusty miller vary in color, growth, shape and overall appearance. The cultivar "Diamond" has white foliage and grows 12 to 16 inches tall. "Silver Dust" has silvery fern-like leaves and reaches 10 to 12 inches in height. The leaves of "Cirrus" resemble those of an oak tree, with no deep lobes. It has gray-silver foliage and grows 8 to 12 inches tall.
