- 1). Turn the gas valve completely off.

Unscrew the lantern cover. Remove the cover and the glass globe that surrounds the mantle (see A). - 3). Remove any remnants of the old mantle.

Tie a new mantle into place on the gas outlet pipe using the attached string (see B). - 5). Pressurize the gas tank by operating the pump on the side of the tank. Open the pump valve by rotating the handle, cover the hole in the pump handle with your thumb, pump repeatedly, then close the valve.
- 6). Hold a lighted match or lighter near the mantle. Open the gas valve slightly. The mantle should begin to burn. Replace the glass globe and the cover.
- 7). Open the gas valve fully when the mantle glows brightly. Close the gas valve completely to shut it off.
- 8). Pressurize the gas tank regularly for best results.
