How to Choose an Ice Skate Size
- 1). Select skates that have leather boots. Avoid skates with vinyl boots because they do not breathe as well.
- 2). Select several pairs of skates to try on. Do not assume that your regular shoe size will be the correct size for you in an ice skate. Measure your foot in the metal measuring tool that the store will have. Measure both feet in case one is larger. Also measure the width of your foot. Ask a store employee to bring you sizes in your regular shoe size, but also in sizes up and down from your regular size.
- 3). Put on the socks that you intend to wear with your skates. When trying on each pair, lace them up all the way. Make sure your foot is firmly placed in the back of the boot. Wiggle your toes to ensure that they can move, but the toe area should not be roomy.
- 4). Walk around the store in the skates for at least 10 minutes, just as you would when trying on shoes. This is important to determine that the skate is wide enough for your foot. Choose the pair of skates that is ultimately the most comfortable.
