Credit - How to Craft a Dispute, Part 1

103 20
A well-planned dispute of accurate adverse information will employ the following guidelines to make the system work to the highest degree possible: oDo not obtain free reports.
Remember that under FACTA, if you receive a credit report for free, the bureaus will have 45 days instead of 30 to verify the data as accurate, which can often work against you.
If you've already ordered free ones, simply purchase new ones.
oBureaus will often ask you for clarification of a negative item or proof of bankruptcy.
Never provide them with information concerning any account, as it will only assist them in making sure the information stays.
It's up to them to prove it's correct, not the other way around.
oContact the bureaus only by certified mail with a return receipt request; never contact them by telephone.
oDon't use the bureaus' online dispute system.
oDon't use the bureaus' dispute forms.
oDon't provide a credit report ID number with your dispute.
oDon't provide a copy of your credit report highlighting the disputed information.
oDon't dispute more than four to five items at the same time.
oDon't provide your driver's license or a copy of your driver's license.
oNever reveal your current employment or driver's license number to the credit bureaus.
Keep in mind that when you're applying for new credit, the address and employment information you provide on the application will be sent to the credit reporting agencies.
oBe specific with regard to your personal identity information.
That is, provide your name, SSN, date of birth, previous employer, current address, addresses in the previous 24 months, and perhaps a credit card or utility bill (with an address on it that you claim is your address).
