Guide Review - Dough Neapolitan Pizzeria Review
Call it fate!
Your name is Doug Horn. You want to open a pizza place. What do you call it? DOUGH, of course; clever! Catchy name aside, DOUGH has quickly become one of the most talked about pizza places in the Alamo City.
It's offers authentic Neapolitan style cuisine complete with an Italian imported wood-burning oven that promises a finished pie in about 90 seconds. The oven is also the center piece of the pizza bar, where you can watch the pizza-making process, among other creations, in action.
DOUGH isn't a typical pizza joint. They don't deliver or do call in orders for pick up. DOUGH offers a trendier pizza experience. In addition to its different pizza style, DOUGH offers fresh salads, designer appetizers including its signature house-made creamy mozzarella medlies, as well as cocktails, all-Italian wines, draft and bottled beer. You can dine inside or opt for DOUGH's patio dining and outdoor wine bar. The popularity of this eatery has taken off, with national attention on media outlets like the Food Network and Everyday with Rachael Ray. Zagats has even listed this location among the top restaurants in major markets (a Dallas location opened earlier this year).
Due to its popularity, wait times can easily average 30+ minutes. One lady, who sat next to met at the pizza bar, says she's seen waits up to 2 hours. Reservations are not an option. We lucked out with no wait for dinner on a Wednesday night. We received our food within a half hour of ordering.
Eating at DOUGH
You get your own craft of water when you order. Service is friendly and attentive. We tried the Burrata Caprese for the appetizer. The cheesy creation worked well with crusty, garlic artisan bread and heirloom tomatoes. That appetizer alone could fill you up. Thumbs up on DOUGH's Arugula salad too; fresh and tangy. DOUGH's prides itself of a fresh herb garden grown right on the premises. Our waiter told us most of DOUGH's products also come from local farms.
We ordered the Pork Love pizza, a blend of meats including salami, pancetta, sausage and more. While tasty, the pizza was a touch on the soggy side, and most of the contents slide off as soon as we grabbed our slices. We had to add them on again with utensils before holding them firmly in place with a pizza fold; still, savory with a kick bite after bite. It's easy to see why it's become a popular hot spot, although I'd probably small children at home.
