Homemade Wrestling Rings
- Since the ring itself is the most important area where most of the wrestling and tricks will be performed, simply lay two or three mattresses on the floor beside each other so there is a springy and soft base to land upon. The number of mattresses which should be laid out depends on the size of the people wrestling, so four or even five mattresses will only help to make the ring bigger and keep you safer. Try lining pillows or sofa cushions around the edges of the mattress ring and to cover objects off the ring on which wrestlers could fall and hurt themselves.
- Many large backyard trampolines are an excellent foundation for a homemade wrestling ring as they are elevated off the ground and have a springy, soft surface on which to land. The only problem with this is that trampolines are inherently dangerous, as people can fly off them or land between the padding and the springs and hurt themselves. Buying a ring around the trampoline with a safety net and enclosure is a great way to ensure no one is thrown or bounces out of the homemade trampoline wrestling ring during a match. Stuffing pillows between the springs of the trampoline and the edge of whatever pad is covering it along the edge keeps people from slipping through the open edge and twisting an ankle or breaking a leg.
- With real commitment and simple construction know-how, a rough model of the actual professional wrestling rings can be constructed. Measure out the rectangular ring you want to build and then bury four 4x4 posts in the ground up to two to three feet deep each and surround them with cement. This leaves about four feet of post out of the ground on each corner. Then take-eye hook bolts and screw them into the posts. Purchase steel cable that runs from eye hook to eye hook and cover it with rubber air compressor hose. These will be your ropes. For the ring itself, use some old mattresses (three to four at least) and cover them with plywood. On top of the plywood lay a one-inch foam sheet, securing it with screws in limited places. Then put a tarp over the foam padding and your ring should be ready for wrestling.
