Risks Associated With Charities
They depend on financial support from donors and even the national government to facilitate their operations.
They have since made a great impact on the society today, raising funds to buy basic needs just to give to those who need them; all in a bid to address crucial humanitarian crises globally.
This indeed helps in making a difference in the lives of people.
Despite having the required good will in place, joining charities may have certain risks.
These risks include: · Donations given may not be specific and instead may cover a large field of needy areas.
This may lead to needy individuals not receiving the help they require at all and in turn will miss the target for the charity.
· Some of the money contributed, may be spent on expenses of the charity organizations such as transport instead of all of it going to the people in need as it was intended.
· Sometimes charities may stop or experience certain hitches in receiving donations and funding from their donors for various reasons.
This may lead to collapse of their operations and in turn even their existence.
·Charities may face certain restrictions on the type of work they are allowed to do.
For example, trading and business activities are subject to certain restrictions hence cannot easily be carried out by charities.
There are also many restrictions on which type of items should be donated to the needy and also which of their needs should be addressed.
· Their activities on a large scale, may lead to undermining of some local economies.
For example, free goods that may be donated to poor countries might aggravate the state of poverty of those countries as their businesses will collapse due to lack of market leading to creation of failed economies.
· Their activities such as massive donations to particular countries may enable ineffective governments to stay in power.
The countries may lack incentive to be self-sustaining and will be in turn be dependent of external aid.
The large monetary donations may give room for corruption which will deprive the citizens in need of the donations and instead siphon it off to the unscrupulous leaders in power.
· Charity work is everything but easy.
Charities need a lot of skilled managerial work, passion, dedication, commitment as well as willingness to get the job done despite all odds, to keep them afloat.
Frequent meetings are also made to maintain smooth normal operations of the organization.
