Tokina 11-16 Lens Review - The Fastest and Sharpest Ultra Wide Angle Lens
The Tokina 11-16 lens hit the market with rage due to its cheap availability together with unbeatable performance. In this short post, we will be looking at how it fare when compared to the Canon and Nikon rivals.
Having a keen eye for the perfect lens in the market I personally fell in love with this piece of lens. This is a bit unusual for me because I typically am a bit skeptical with third party lens manufacturers.
My extensive research leads me to believe that Tokina 11-16 is by far the best on the rack given the kind of price tag that is attached to it. It can easily be compared to the equivalent Nikon or Canon alternative such as the Nikon 10-24mm, Nikon 10-24mm and the Canon 10-22mm lens.
The fastest ultra wide angle lens manufactured for the first time by Tokina is the highlight of this product.
Initially this lens wasn't my first choice as I am of the view that third party lens cannot beat original manufacturer lens. But later, I got to know how flawed my thinking was as Tokina 11-16mm proved to be the best amongst the rest possessing unique features.
Some broad specifications includes the 104 - 82° Angle of View; minimum focusing distance of 11.8in. (0.3m); filter thread of 77mm, and weighs about 560g; it is available for Canon, Nikon, and Sony mount.
I personally love the AF feature that allows the lens to focus automatically on the subject. Furthermore the the f/2.8 aperture is a rare and an undoubtedly awesome feature to have in a ultra wide angle lens.
For people like me who love capturing dim light interior photos indoors this lens has made it very convenient to shoot indoors without compromising on quality. Not to forget the lens works perfectly well both indoors and outdoors alike.
Tokina 11-16mm totally worked for me despite its zoom range limitation factor of 1.45x. You also have to understand that in order for Tokina to make the lens retain the wide aperture, they have to put some limitations on the zoom range.
Every lens has its negatives but this specific lens has outweighing positives that simply can't be denied.
Therefore I can confidently recommend this lens to everyone but a word of caution is that you shouldn't use it with a full frame DSLR camera as the lens is designed to be used with cropped sensor DSLR.
