Ideas for Dora & Diego Birthday Party Games

    • Two popular shows on Nick Jr. are "Dora the Explorer" and "Go, Diego, Go!" On the shows, Dora and Diego are cousins and often their adventures are combined on episodes. Children's birthday parties often feature mixed genders, and instead of having just a Dora or a Diego theme, mixing them together is the perfect way to please both boys and girls. Playing games based off the show gives the children chances to interact, learn and have a memorable party experience.

    Copy the Troll

    • On "Dora the Explorer," the old troll under the bridge often stops Dora and has her act out things. Turn this part of the show into a "Simon Says" type game. To pass the bridge and earn a prize, players must correctly copy the moves that the troll asks. Instead of just moves, the troll can also ask riddles or have children complete song lyrics. Learn the "Grumpy Old Troll" song for an added effect.

    Animal Acts

    • Write and draw pictures of animals on separate pieces of paper. Each child picks out the piece of paper and keeps their animal selection hidden. Once everyone has an animal, parents can signal and the children act out their specific animal. The children can interact with each other and guess which animal they are portraying. Diego always teaches animal noises and traits, so you can use animals from his show, like elephants, lions, bears, dinosaurs, cats, dogs, and sea animals like whales, sharks and dolphins.

    Catch the Stars

    • Newer episodes of "Dora the Explorer" feature Dora's Star Catcher pocket. Give each child a small baggy to represent their star packet. Use multiple colors of construction paper to cut out different colored stars. Place the stars all around the house or outside if the party is outdoors. Let the children out and see who catches the most stars. Use around five dozen stars so that every child can collect a lot. Give a child a prize for the most stars, most stars of one color and other categories you think of.

    Boots Banana Toss

    • Group the children into pairs and give each pair one banana. Have the pairs stand across from each other, about 2 feet away. Each child must toss the banana to the other and catch it. If a team misses, they are eliminated. After each throw, one player takes one step back. Continue playing until there is only one team left.

    Click and Find Scavenger Hunt

    • Recreate Diego's camera in a scavenger-hunt format. Before the party, use a digital camera to take pictures of various things around the backyard. You can also set up different things in the yard like candy and toys to find. Upload the pictures to the computer and put all the photos onto a single page. Print out enough copies for every party guest. Hand out the papers and have all the children find the different objects on the paper. Whoever finds all the objects first is declared the winner.

    Character Tag

    • Tune the classic game of "TV Tag" into a Dora and Diego themed game. Assign a child to be "It." When that person tries to tag another person, the person can duck down and say a Dora or Diego character to avoid getting tagged. Players can repeat character names during the same round as an "It" person, and if someone names a character not on those shows, they are automatically "It."
