If you have bought a cheap old car, you will probably be interested in learning how to make that car last as long as possible. You paid good money for it, and now you want value for your money. Make those extra little bit of investments to make sure you can enjoy this car for the next few years!

Cheap Old Used Cars

1. Read the reviews of the car's model and make before you actually buy it. Some cars have had lots of trouble in the past because they were flawed by design. If you find a number of people all complaining about one certain aspect of a particular car model, assume the car has that flaw by nature. You might want to avoid this particular car.

2. Change the oil regularly. Don't let the garage do this. Instead, do it yourself. This way, you'll know exactly what exactly you're putting in your car. Just use whatever it is that the car's manufacturer recommends. You don't need anything fancy and expensive. The cheap stuff does the job of keeping your engine oiled just fine.

3. Keep maintenance records. If you don't, you'll have no idea when the car needs a new belt, a tire change, an oil change or whatever. When something breaks because you didn't replace it, the car might get damaged beyond just that one thing that needed replacement.

4. Replace the car's belt preventively. If your car belt breaks while driving, you'll be stranded at the side of the road. A broken belt might even destroy your engine. Engines aren't cheap. They're easily the most expensive part of the car.

5. Get yourself a good car mechanic. A car mechanic you can trust is a valuable assett for life. Dishonest car mechanics will solve one problem, but cause a whole bunch of new ones. This is a well known trick that these people use to keep you coming back for more repairs. Avoid this money trap at all cost.
