The Basics Of Article Syndication

Sharing your content across different websites and blogs was considered to be a very effective internet marketing strategy even before the rise of social media.
While Facebook and Twitter facilitates the sharing of content, if you want your website to attract potential readers, then you should aim for having your blog posts and articles syndicated on other websites.
For example, if you have a blog on training dogs and if you could have some of your content syndicated on a very popular blog for pets, then your post will instantly have, hundreds, if not thousands of readers! Even in terms of SEO, the back link that you insert in the syndicated content makes a very high authority link that is going to give you a lot of link juice.
In short, content syndication is what you need to do to ensure the growth of organic traffic for your website.
As your readership base continues to grow, your blog becomes more popular and eventually becomes an authority in the niche.
I first came across the term "syndication" in a business class where it was defined as an association of individuals or firms whose job was to transact a specific business or to conduct a given task.
This usually happens when a merchant can't afford to pay for something by himself and has to find a partner who is willing to split the profits.
Content syndication is not what the traditional definition would suggest but you get the point.
Marketers enjoy having fancy terminology and content syndication sounds a lot better than "having another website use my content.
" The principle is still the same though.
There is a mutual understanding between two parties where the original writer of the content will get to have his work exposed to potential readers and the user of the content is going to have something informative and interesting to share with his readers.
So how do you get your content syndicated? If you have just established a blog and it does not have a whole lot of readers then syndication would be a good idea.
It is highly unlikely that other webmasters would come to you which is why you have to go to the webmasters.
So how do you find other blogs that may be interested in sharing your articles? The simplest method is to do a Google search.
Your search term should look something like this, "Your niche+ blog", or "Your niche+ write for us".
Of all the websites that turn up see which blogs are similar to yours.
The chances of your article getting posted there are much higher.
The blog is most likely to have a contact form or a "write for us" page.
When you are sending them your email, be sure to include a URL to your website and tell a little bit about yourself.
Webmasters of authority blogs are often sentimental that way.
If you want to improve the chances of your article getting syndicated then there are a couple of things you need to do: 1) Make sure it is informative: Article marketing is actually a sub-category of information marketing.
Information marketing is basically a strategy where you inform your customer about a particular product that you are trying to sell by means of various media.
But for amateur bloggers, informative can be a bit of a vague term.
How do you exactly define informative? In my experience, articles can be informative as long as they offer something.
A opinion, some information or an insight into a topic.
It does not matter if what you have to offer is already widely covered; as long as you introduce some perspective into the topic, people will be inclined to read it.
2) Don't Make it A Sales Pitch: This point is obsolete if you adhere to the first point.
How would you like it if your best friend invited you to dinner one day and all he did throughout the entire duration was advertise a new product his company was launching? I would feel extremely annoyed and would leave unless he had something delicious for dessert! Bloggers DO NOT want that happening with their readers.
Hence they do not want to promote a product or service, neither their own nor someone else's.
3) Have a Catchy headline: Most readers on the internet, do not judge an article after reading it.
Their initial impression of the article makes them decide if they are going to read it at all! So always have a headline that promises your reader what the article has to offer.
The most popular type of headline would be list type headlines like, "Top 5 ways to lose weight", "10 dresses you should wear this summer".
Having humor in your tittles is a good idea as well although there are a couple of risks of doing this.
There is always a chance of search engines incorrectly indexing your content because robots do not get humor! Another possibility is that your readers do not have a sense of humor either.
So the smart thing to do would be to take some time and go through the prospective blog and see if they appreciate humor.
4) Make it pretty to look at: Your article might have ground breaking information but it may escape the attention of your readers simply because your article consisted of a sea of text.
Some of the basic rules of writing are to always have lots of paragraphs, emphasize the main points and always try to have pictures.
There are plenty of sites offering royalty free pictures at very reasonable subscription rates which you can use on your site.
5) Length of your article: The thumb rule of internet marketing is to have all your articles in the 400-500 words region.
If you want your articles to be syndicated then do not write all articles up to 500 words.
Try to make them longer, more in the region of 700-1200 words.
There are two reasons behind this, the most important one being that longer posts or articles are symbols of quality blogs.
The more information you offer in one place, the more likely that you are going to have readers subscribing to your blog.
Another reason is that with syndication, there are always websites who are looking to publish content simply to fill up the space in their website.
Many webmasters are enthusiastic about publishing a 700+ word articles simply because it takes more space.
After you are done actually writing and editing your article, work on your author box, because that is where you can post the links to your site.
Author boxes need to be informative but at the same time they need to say something about you that is going to make people want to learn more about you.
