Tea Bag Solution to Clean Wood Floors
- Running a dust mop over the wood floors once a week will remove any large debris. This is important. If these little rocks and dirt continue to sit on the floor and be walked on, they are repeatedly ground into the floor and can scratch the surface.
You will first need to clean the floors by mixing 1 cup of white vinegar into 2 gallons of warm water. This will remove dirt and debris from the floor. You may use a mop with a removable head for washing in between uses. Do not use too much water as this will damage the natural hardwood. Wring mop out twice to remove most of the water before cleaning. - Boil about ten bags of black tea in a kettle for about 15 minutes. Do not use instant tea. The amount of tea bags depends only on your personal preference. You may use your mop to apply to the floor or a soft rag. Let dry. This solution will give your natural hardwood floors a beautiful shine.
- You may use anywhere from two to twenty teabags with 2 quarts of warm water. The amount of tea bags used in the solution will determine the darkness of the mixture. Using a larger number of teabags will give you a stronger solution, less a weaker solution. Try in a small, inconspicuous area of the floor. You may have to experiment with the number of tea bags to get a mixture that you like.
- Black tea contains tannic acid, which gives natural hardwood floors a spectacular natural shine with no rinsing required. Another option for application is to transfer the tea solution to an empty spray bottle and spray onto the floor once it has cooled. Then use your mop or a rag to cover the entire floor.
- After you have covered the floor with the tea solution, let it dry. If your hardwood floor has deep, noticeable scratches, you can use a crayon of a similar color to fill in the scratch. Then heat with a blow dryer, and buff.
