Are Hot Tubs Safe for Children?
Ho-t Tub Rules for Keeping Children Safe
Stay together: The first, and perhaps most important, rule for keeping children safe near a warm tub is of course to ensure children are never left alone. Hot Tu-bs are relatively shallow, but even the lowest level of water can be fatal for a child. This rule is clear and simple; ensure children are supervised at all times. An accident can occur in seconds so even if you have to dash away from the heated tub to answer the door or phone you should take the children with you. This really can, and does, save little lives.
Keep covered: When your hot -tub is not in use make sure there is a secure, lockable cover over the tub. Children are fearsome on their quest for adventure and a heated tub with an unlocked cover could be very inviting for a curious child.
Check the temperature: You may like your h-ot tub water to be hot but if you have children who will be using the heated tub too it's important to regulate the temperature to suit them as well. Smaller children are more susceptible to heat, what might feel like pleasantly warm to you could be too hot for a child to be in for too long.
Be age aware: Babies and small toddlers should not use a Hot T-ub. The water is too difficult to moderate to suit tiny bodies and can cause dehydration. Older children should only use the tub for short periods of time.
Keeping clean: If there's one thing I'm sure we'd all agree on it's that children are dirt magnets! Make sure little feet are clean from mud and sand before immersing in the ho-t tub - it will save you time on cleaning in the long run and make the warm tub experience more enjoyable for everyone.
Hot -tubs are fun for all the family but only with the right supervision. Be vigilant with children around the h-ot tub and you'll have many memorable summers of enjoyment from your tub.
