For kids, the Easter egg hunt is the most exciting activity of the spring holiday. It gives them a chance to have some playtime outdoors and spend time with their friends and family. Planning the hunt in your yard or garden is easy. Start by sending invitations to your child's class, neighbors and friends. You can make these invitations at home by repurposing old cards. Use stencils or cookie cutters shaped like bunnies or chicks to make Easter-themed

Bring home all the gear you will need for the hunt two to three weeks in advance. Small Easter baskets, Easter gifts for children, candy, stuffers for plastic eggs, bunny-ear headbands and party decorations are some things you will need. Go to the craft store and select about a dozen or so small Easter baskets. Besides the hunt, the baskets can be used as decorative accents around your home for Easter. Lined with faux grass and filled decorated egg, these small Easter baskets can function as centerpieces, mantel decorations or outdoor display accessories.

Attach a labeled gift tag or paint names on baskets so each child at the hunt has a basket of their own. For the hunt you can use dyed eggs or you can opt for plastic eggs filled with Easter gifts for children. Temporary tattoos, stickers, beads, art supplies, candy, coins, hair ties, bracelets, barrettes, crayons, erasers, etc. are some great plastic egg stuffers. This way the all the children win something at the hunt. Estimate about a dozen eggs per child so everyone has a chance to collect a good amount of eggs.

Make the hunt interesting and fun for the kids by hiding special eggs. Cover two to three eggs with silver foil or gold foil and hide them in hard-to-find spots. Plan special Easter gifts for children who find these special eggs. Board games, stamping kits, books about Easter, plush toys and dolls make excellent Easter gifts for children who find the special eggs.

Decorate the area of the hunt with balloons, streamers and ribbons. Put up signs and plaques to guide the little ones. Use the signs to limit the area of your yard you want to be used for the hunt. Choose fun chalkboard signs featuring bunnies and other spring creatures.
Happy Hunting!
