Unholy - Blood Of The Medusa
About.com Rating
This is the debut full-length from Unholy, who hail from Syracuse, New York. Even though the band is new, its members are veterans who have been in bands such as Path Of Resistance, Another Victim and Godbelow.
Blood Of The Medusa is thrash infused metallic hardcore that's intense and straightforward. You'll hear influences of everyone from Carcass to Slayer to Corrosion Of Conformity. The songs are aggressive, but Unholy infuses plenty of catchy riffs and bursts of melody that make them memorable.
One of the biggest challenges for a band like this is to avoid having every song sound the same. They do a decent job of varying tempos and mixing in enough diversity to avoid that pitfall.
The vocals are harsh screamo style yells that are passionate and angry. There are also guest appearances from Karl Buechner (Earth Crisis, Freya) and Bruce LaPage (100 Demons). Blood Of The Medusa is a very promising debut that pulls no punches and delivers the goods.
