What is "Benson"?:
Benson is a fairly traditional comic that one could almost imagine appearing in the Sunday paper, but it's better than B.C. and Hi and Lois and all that crap. Who the hell is named "Hi", anyway? Family Circus is still way better, though, because it has those circuitous paths little Billy takes to do simple tasks.
Hee! Wait, where were we? Ah yeah, Benson centers around two dudes who look like worms, the selfish Benson and his put-upon housekeeper Thumby, as well as some other guys who don't look like worms. But they never make fun of the worm guys for their horrible disfigurement, which I think is pretty cool of them.
While it does share a somewhat similar sensibility, Benson is more edgy than standard newspaper fare (I never saw a Garfield about pooping in the pool). It's also drawn by two different artists, who create alternate panels with no definitive idea of where the strip will lead. The twist? One lives in Australia and one lives in England, and they mail the strips back and forth until they're complete, 'cause I guess they never heard of scanners or something. And Bruce Willis was dead the whole time.
