  There's certainly no shortage of event spaces in New York; however, not every venue is appropriate for all events. • For that home-like feeling away from home, the Fifth Avenue Loft may be exactly what you're looking for. The space itself has 14-foot ceilings, hardwood floors and east and west views of the city. Kitchen space is available and you're welcome to bring in your own food and beverages. As of April 2010, a six-hour rental ranges from $800 for 25 guests or less, to $1,800 for 50 to 75 guests. That rental fee includes two flat screen televisions, an iPod-ready stereo and Wi-Fi Internet. There's also a stage and a lighting system if you want to have karaoke or a live band, as well as couches, chairs and tables for your use.

Alice's Tea Cup

• Alice's Tea Cup is a tea room cafe with a vintage, whimsical look. Baby shower guests are given the Mad Hatter tea service, which includes a variety of scones, desserts, cookies and teas. As of April 2010, the service is $30 per person, with additional charges depending on the location. For an extra fee, you can have tarot, palm and tea leaf readings available for your guests. Alice's Tea Cup will also make your baby shower cake or party favor bags, for an additional fee.

Manhattan Yacht Charters

• Manhattan Yacht Charters will provide you with a floating baby shower that leaves from New York Harbor and travels up and down the East and Hudson Rivers. There are a selection of luxury yachts available, with enough space to hold six to 1,200 guests. Sample menus are available and include hors d'oeuvres, an entrée and dessert.
