  Located along the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountain range, Grass Valley is a historic "California gold rush" town, filled with monuments to that era. In addition to the various historic sites, this mining town is host to a variety of recreation and entertainment options, like live theater, hiking/biking trails, golf courses, museums and art centers. And, if you're planning to visit this historic area with your favorite pet, there are at least a few pet-friendly hotels in town.
  
  

Holbrook Hotel & Saloon

• Part of Grass Valley's historic district, Holbrook Hotel & Saloon, itself, is a piece of history; some past guests have included Mark Twain and presidents Ulysses S. Grant, Grover Cleveland, James A. Garfield and Benjamin Harrison. Their guestbook signatures are even preserved and on display in the hotel. This historic establishment allows guests' pets to stay in the hotel rooms, for a one-time $50 fee. However, only small pets, 30 lbs. or less, are allowed. The 26 Victorian-style rooms in the Holbrook Hotel vary in size, but each comes with cable TV and Wi-Fi Internet access. The establishment also houses a restaurant: The Nevada County Grill. And the on-site Golden Gate Saloon claims to be "the oldest continuously operating saloon west of the Mississippi." As of 2010, the rooms at Holbrook Hotel & Saloon start at around $110 per night.

Grass Valley Courtyard Suites

• Located just one block from Grass Valley's historic district, this dog-friendly hotel will allow you to bring along your four-legged friend, regardless of room choice, for a one-time cleaning fee of $25 to $50, depending on the size of the dog. The hotel will even provide you with a "Canine Cuddler" dog sleeping-bag, during your stay. The Grass Valley Courtyard Suites offers a variety of king and queen bed guestrooms and suites. And this particular Holiday Inn allows pets for a one-time $50 fee, regardless of the size of those pets. The hotel offers a choice of guestrooms, executive guestrooms and suites; each comes with cable TV, high-speed Wi-Fi Internet access, mini-fridge and microwave.
