How to Disable Messaging on a Cell Phone
- 1). Call the customer service number on your last cell phone billing statement. Explain to the operator that you want to disable text messaging entirely. If the representative refuses or says it cannot be done, ask to speak to the representative's superior. You may be transferred a few times. Ask the representative to repeat the number back to you to verify that text messaging has been disabled for the correct phone.
- 2). Go to your online account to check whether you can disable messaging from the company's website. If that option is available, go to the tab that says "My Account," "Communication Tools" or the like. Check for a tab labeled "Preferences" or "Text Messaging," and select the option that says "Disable Text Messaging" or the like. Save the changes.
- 3). Type a letter or email the customer service department. Provide your account number, name, address and cell phone number. Explain that you want text messaging blocked on your phone. Make a copy of the letter or save the email. If you mail it, address it to ATTN: Customer Service. If you email it, make the title ATTN: Block Text Messaging for [Account or Phone Number].
- 4). Check back with your cell phone service provider a few days later to ensure that text messaging has been disabled and that you will not be charged for further texts. (If you mailed the letter, check back after 10 days.)
