Tourists visit Norfolk for its close proximity to fishing and boating excursions on the Chesapeake Bay and recreational activities at Norfolk Botanical Gardens. Norfolk is also home to Old Dominion University and Norfolk State University, so like many college towns, it has a vibrant nightlife. The city is also the location of the Norfolk Naval Base, whose sailors add to the eclectic mix of patrons you will see on a weekend night. - The Banque is located in northern Norfolk, less than five minutes' driving distance from Lake Whitehurst. Established in 1973, this country-western nightclub has dining and dancing. The menu includes items such as chicken fingers, shrimp jammers and steak bites. The Banque is open Mondays through Saturdays but is closed on Sundays. Dance lessons are available on Wednesdays and Fridays. Monthly events include Ladies Night and a Texas Hold 'Em tournament. A western-themed general store, Belle's Dry Goods, sells gear such as cowboy hats and apparel.

This vibrant nightspot has a large dance floor, as well as three bars and multiple VIP seating sections. This club recommends that its patron dress fashionably and prohibits ripped clothing, sneakers and other casual clothing. Even hats are not allowed on Saturday nights. Menu entrees include Cajun shrimp fettuccine, twin crab cakes and grilled rib-eye steak. Entourage is open Thursdays through Sundays. entourageva.com - Founded in 1985, Squires Club is a private after-hours club on Little Creek Road about two miles north of the Norfolk Botanical Gardens. The club has a poolroom, expansive dance floor and bar seating. Squires is open Tuesdays through Sundays from 1 to 6 a.m. The club has a strict dress code, and members must dress tastefully. Events at Squires include costume balls and VIP parties. Only members are allowed to enter the club. As of spring 2010, the membership fee is $75 for six months and $130 for a year. All applicants must be approved before they are accepted.
