Summer camp is almost a childhood rite of passage, but a summer camp that teaches kids and teens to fly planes is even more so. While they tend to be quite expensive, these classes will give your child the tools they need to decide on a possible career as a pilot or at the very least allow the to do practice hours toward earning their pilot's license. - Langley Flying School offers a one-week intensive pilot-training program combining ground school classes and flight training. It is especially designed for those who are considering a career as a professional pilot. Camp runs in five-day sessions, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., from June to August. Enrollment is limited. Langley classes include basic aircraft maneuvers, cross-country flying and instrument flying. All of Langley's ground training and flight classes can be accredited toward a private pilot license. Pilot camp participants must be 12 years or older, although exceptions are made on a case-by-case basis. Langley also encourages parent-child enrollments. Students learn to fly using a Piper Cherokee Cruiser, a four-seat aircraft that provides smooth and balanced flight-handling characteristics.

They experience at least three hours of flying and five hours of observing flying techniques. Additionally, they visit aerospace museums, learn the air traffic control system, discover how to plan cross country flights and study aviation weather.
